On 26 February 2018, No Peace Without Justice, in partnership with the Inter-African Committee for Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children  (IAC) and the NGO Voix des Femmes, convened a national workshop in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, aimed at fostering the implementation of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolutions 69/146 and 69/150 calling for a worldwide ban on female genital mutilation (FGM).

The workshop was organised under the sponsorship of  H.E. Mrs Sika KABORE, First Lady of Burkina Faso and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Participants included representatives from the police, gendarmerie and the judicial sector (Forces de défense et de sécurité - FDS), and other key actors involved in the fight against FGM and for the promotion of women’s rights.

The purpose of the event was to strengthen awareness-raising and advocacy activities about the national mechanisms designed to protect women and girls against FGM and the legislation banning the practice of FGM adopted in 1996 (loi n°043/96/ADP). In particular, the workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of the police, gendarmerie and the judiciary in addressing violations of the prohibition of FGM and in ensuring compliance with the law.
