International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: NPWJ calls for enhanced commitment to protect women’s rights

Brussels – Rome, 25 November 2019

On the International Day against #ViolenceAgainstWomen, No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) condemns the actual condition of women, at all latitudes, that continue to suffer from significant forms of discrimination and intolerable violence. NPWJ, which has made the battle to stop violence against women a priority, wants to remind the victims of abuses: “You are not alone”.

We at NPWJ are proud to have fought for years alongside the victims of female genital mutilation, rape and violence of all kinds as a weapon of war. In some countries, women are deprived of the most basic human rights simply because of their gender.

The civil society can reach the gender equality only through a profound change in social attitudes towards women, anywhere in the world. We cannot ignore what is happening in distant countries, because as we have seen with the dramatically increasing female genital mutilation in Europe, the problem affects us directly.
