The ICJ Genocide case. Rohingya perspectives

 
On 11 November 2019, The Gambia filed a case against Myanmar before the International Court of Justice alleging violations of the 1948 Genocide Convention for its atrocities against the Rohingya community in Rakhine State. From 10 to 12 December 2019, the ICJ heard oral submissions from The Gambia and Myanmar on this matter. The ICJ has now indicated it will issue its decision on the application for provisional measures at 10h00 on Thursday, 23 January 2020.
 
Panel Discussion: following the issuance of the ICJ decision, No Peace Without Justice together with numerous partners are convening a panel discussion with representatives from the Rohingya community, to share their perspectives and what the ICJ decision means to them. This event builds on a number of other events led by members of the Rohingya community and convened by the same NGO co-sponsors around the different stages of the ICJ case to date.
 
The panel discussion will take place from 13h00 to 14h30, and a light lunch will be served from 12h00, also to provide an opportunity for informal interaction with Rohingya human rights activists and others involved in the case.
