NPWJ Activity in Uganda

Since June 2010 NPWJ has been involved in intensive lobbying to international institutions and governments to denounce grave violations of LGBTI human rights in Uganda – specifically, we hope to have the Anti-Homosexuality Bill currently before Ugandan Parliament removed in its entirety. NPWJ has also denounced in collaboration with the international community the murder of human rights defender David Kato Kisule at his home in Bukusa-Kyetume, Nakisunga, Mukono District. We demand that the government acknowledge its responsibility to intervene and put an end to the campaign of hate and violence against the LGBTI community, and protect the activists whose lives continue to be in danger, by undertaking immediately to create a climate of tolerance and dialogue among the authorities and political and religious organizations. We further demand a rigorous, effective and impartial investigation into the murder, and a fair and accountable trial that will bring to justice those responsible for his killing, including those who may have encouraged or requested his murder.
