39th Congress of the Transnational Nonviolent Radical Party: A Radical Agenda for a New Democratic Hope

 
The Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty (NRPTT) will hold its 39th Congress in Chianciano from February 17 to 20, with the participation of more than 80 parliamentarians, political leaders and civil and human rights activists, representatives of minorities and oppressed peoples from all over the world.
 
Nine years after the last Congress held in Geneva and Tirana, the 39th Congress of the NRPTT aims to discuss and address objectives that can give new hope to democracy and the Rule of Law, as tools for citizens all over the world to re-launch actual fronts of nonviolent political initiative. Among the major topics on the agenda of the Congress, participants will discuss initiatives aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of supranational justiciability and protection of Human Rights, supporting those political and institutional actors who in countries affected by crisis are fighting for the restoration of the rule of law and against impunity, the “Free Iraq” Campaign, European and world federalism as alternatives to the degeneration of liberal democracies towards ‘real democracies’.
 
No Peace Without Justice, which is a constituent association of the Transnational Radical Party born from a campaign launched by its Congress held in Sofia in 1993, will participate to the Congress and present its current campaigns aimed at promoting accountability and redress for the victims of crimes under international law, supporting the adoption of a UNGA Resolution to ban FGM as a violation of universal human rights and physical integrity of women and girls, promoting and defending the fundamental rights and freedoms of LGBTI persons in Uganda, as well as reinforcing the role of human rights and democracy activists to foster political reforms in the Middle East and North Africa Region.
 
Among the political leaders and human rights activists involved in NPWJ campaigns will take part to the NRPTT Congress: Bakhtiar Amin (Iraq, former Minister for Human Rights and leader of International Alliance for Justice), Mariam Lamizana (Burkina Faso, President of the Inter-African Committee on Traditional Harmful Practices (IAC), former Minister of Social Action and National Solidarity of Burkina Faso), Comfort Effiom (Cameroon, Director of the IAC in Cameroon),  Morissanda Kouyate (Ethiopia, Head of Operations, IAC), Tolekan Ismailova (Kyrgyzstan, chairwoman of "Citizens Against Corruption"), Khadidia Sidibé (Mali, President of the Association Malienne pour le suivi et l'orientation des pratiques traditionnelles), Khady Koita (Senegal, founder and president of La Palabre), Demba Traoré (Senegal, former MP), Rahim Kamara (Sierra Leone, Director of the organization Manifesto 99), Amb. Allieu Kanu (Sierra Leone, Director of Sierra Leone Institute for International Law), John Francis Onyango (Uganda, legal counsel of Sexual Minorities Uganda, SMUG).
 
The NRPTT is a nonviolent organization with first-category consultative status at the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. This affiliation allowed representatives of oppressed and non represented peoples, dissidents, religious groups, and opponents of authoritarian regimes the invaluable opportunity to take the floor in UN fora in New York, Geneva, Vienna and elsewhere.
