NPWJ and the NRPTT welcome nomination of Aminata Touré as Prime Minister of Senegal

Brussels-Rome-New York, 3 September 2013

"No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) and the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty (NRPTT) warmly congratulate Ms Aminata Touré for her nomination as the Prime Minister of Senegal, and look forward to the outstanding leadership she will bring to this position as a steadfast human rights activist.

"As Minister of Justice of Senegal over the past year and a half, Ms Touré has waged a forceful and tireless battle against corruption.  She also brings to her new position a powerful voice as a Senegalese political activist and as a human rights campaigner both in Senegal and internationally, including as Director of Gender and Human Rights Department of UNFPA between 2003 and 2010.

"The choices Ms. Touré has made in the first day as Prime Minister have revealed graciousness towards her predecessor and wisdom in her new ministerial appointments. Most remarkably, her appointment of the former director of the International Federation for Human Rights, Sidiki Kaba, shows her steadfast commitment to the promotion of human rights.

"Ms Touré’s work is a testament to the fact that human rights are promoted by promoting democracy and rule of law.  Her dedication to these principles, and her exceptional qualifications and skills, promise exemplary leadership in her new position in advancing human rights, democratic principles, rule of law, justice and accountability."
