Climate change: US to pay $75m to relocate tribes facing flood threat

US President Joe Biden's administration will help fund the move of three tribal communities facing urgent threats from climate change. The three tribes will receive $75m (£62m) divided equally between them, Mr Biden announced on Wednesday. All are located along coastal areas and rivers in the states of Alaska and Washington. The money will fund the move of key buildings and residential homes to higher ground, away from rising waters.

IDB approves $500 mln loan to Argentina to fight climate change

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a $500 million credit line to Argentina to mitigate the impacts of climate change, its Economy Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. The loan will be granted with a single payment in December, the ministry said, adding it is linked to targets looking to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Vanuatu publishes draft resolution seeking climate justice at UN court

Vanuatu has published a draft UN resolution requesting an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on states’ legal obligation for climate action and the consequences of causing harm. While the court, which is the UN’s main judiciary arm, has no binding authority, its opinion could inform lawsuits around the world and strengthen vulnerable countries’ position in international negotiations.

Just Stop Oil activist jailed for six months for M25 disruption

A climate activist who disrupted traffic on the M25 has been sentenced to six months in prison. Jan Goodey, 57, from Brighton, was jailed after pleading guilty to intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance after taking part in Just Stop Oil’s campaign of disruption on London’s orbital motorway earlier this month.
