Just Stop Oil: Valero Energy granted injunction restricting protests

An oil firm has been granted a High Court injunction aimed at restricting environmental protesters from targeting its fuel processing sites. Valero Energy has secured the order against several environmental groups and "persons unknown". It bans anyone from damaging the land at its sites or "affixing themselves to any other person or object". The firm's Warwickshire terminal has been the site of recent protests, with 32 arrests made over during the weekend.

Indigenous march in Brazil to demand land protection

Thousands of Indigenous people have marched in Brazil’s capital to press Congress not to pass legislation proposed by far-right President Jair Bolsonaro’s government that would open their protected lands to commercial mining and agriculture. According to the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB), some 6,000 people from 176 different groups marched on Wednesday towards the National Congress in Brasilia as part of a 10-day annual protest demanding the protection of Indigenous land and rights.

On Monday (April 11), a ‘people-powered’ campaign launched a brand-new film, aiming to raise awareness about savers' pensions - and the surprising way they can help fight the climate crisis. The movement, Make My Money Matter, was founded by UK film director Richard Curtis in partnership with Jo Corbett, a former special advisor to the government. The new campaign, #DeliverTheTruth, features a short film directed by Curtis - usually known for directing rom-coms such as 'Love Actually'. He hopes to fight the companies responsible for driving “deforestation, damaging the environment, and threatening lives and livelihoods across the planet.”

XR scientists glue hands to business department in London climate protest

Twenty-five scientists have pasted pages of scientific papers to the windows of the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and glued their hands to the glass to highlight the climate science they said the government was ignoring. The scientists, affiliated with Scientists for Extinction Rebellion, arrived at the department’s building at 1 Victoria Street, Westminster, London, just after 11am. Doctors and health professionals staged a decoy action to give them space to get into position.
