It’s estimated more than 500,000 women and girls in the U.S. are either victims of female genital mutilation or are at risk of being subjected to it. ICE is teaming up with Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI's International Human Rights Unit and the Department of Justice's Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section to combat the crime, which is up threefold since 1990, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

North Korea’s women being subjected to rape, violence and malnutrition, UN warns

North Korean women are deprived of education and job opportunities and are often subjected to violence at home and sexual assault in the workplace, a United Nations (UN) human rights panel said on Monday. After a regular review of Pyongyang's record, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women voiced concern at rape or mistreatment of women in detention especially those repatriated after fleeing abroad.
