Marcela recently graduated from the European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA) offered by the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC). Her thesis on the role of civil society organisations (CSOs) in the process of dealing with the past focused on Croatia as a case study. Before joining the master’s program, Marcela worked as an operations officer in humanitarian demining operations carried out by Norwegian People’s Aid Colombia and as a sponsorship assistant at SOS Children’s Villages Colombia. Her professional background also includes multiple years of experience as a translator and interpreter (as a freelance worker and volunteer). Finally, she briefly worked as an English teacher (grades 4 to 11) at a foundation called Formemos, whose school is located in a rural sector close to Bogotá, Colombia.
Marcela’s areas of interest include women’s rights, animal rights, environmental justice, transitional justice (particularly, documentation, the right to truth and memory work) and the role of literature and cinema in human rights.
