Conference on “Afghanistan: protecting women and defending human rights”

On 8 october 2021, the online conference “Afghanistan: protecting women and defending human rights” convened by Fight Impunity provided an opportunity to discuss accountability, defense of human rights and protection of women's rights in Afghanistan.
 
Speakers included Sakharov Prize’s nominees Shahrzad Akbar, President of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission, Freshta Karim, founder of Charmaghz, a mobile library in Kabul, Sahraa Karimi, the first female president of the Afghan Film Organization, and Metra Mehran, women’s rights activist and co-founder of  Feminine Perspectives Movement; as well as Niccolò Figà-Talamanca, Secretary General of No Peace Without Justice, Pierantonio Panzeri, President of Fight Impunity, Marie Arena, President of the Sub-Committee on Human Rights of the European Parliament, Richard Bennet, Independent Consultant Special Advisor on Peace and Security and former Director of Amnesty International's Asia Pacific Program, Ghulam Sakhi, researcher and consultant, Afghan Human Rights and Democracy Organisation.
