Justice Rapid Response: certified new group of 27 deployable experts strengthens JRR’s operational capabilities

 
The Third Justice Rapid Response Training Course concluded last week in Doha, Qatar with the 20 participants being certified to the JRR Roster as well as 8 observers. The experts came from a variety of world regions but the majority came from the Middle East, particularly Qatar.
 
Speaking from Qatar, Alison Smith (International Criminal Justice Program Coordinator) said that the training course had three major outcomes: First, an additional 28 experts in criminal justice and related professions have now been certified to the JRR Roster. With the increase in deployable experts and the diversification of expertise available, JRR is steadily becoming more and more operational and the range of potential situations in which JRR experts could be deployed is expanding.
 
Second, the participants who came from the MENA region uniformly expressed the benefits the training would bring for their work at home. The contribution of the training course to increasing capacity, including for civilian deployment, demonstrates the multiple benefits of participation in JRR.
 
Third, a Presenters Workshop was held in the margin of the training course which broadened the scope and number of experts able to present at a JRR training course. The Presenters Workshop contributed to the further development of the JRR program and implementation of courses thereby enhancing the potential to certify new experts to the JRR roster.
 
At the conclusion of the course, participants and organisers (NPWJ, the Institute for International Criminal Investigations and the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team) expressed their thanks to the Office of the General Prosecutor of Qatar for hosting the event, to the Arab Democracy Foundation for its cooperation and to the Governments of Canada, Germany and the Netherlands for providing the financial support that made the course possible.
