#BlackLivesMatter: NPWJ stands with those fighting against impunity and working to transform our societies on the basis of equality and human rights for all

4 June 2020

Freedom from discrimination, freedom of assembly and freedom of expression are all freedoms from fear that we hold dear at No Peace Without Justice.

We stand in solidarity with the people of the United States who are exercising these freedoms, under the threat of violence by those who have sworn to protect them.

We celebrate the courage of those protesting the lack of justice for brutality against black people, native Americans and people of colour.

Freedom from fear requires justice and accountability for everyone, and first and foremost for those acting under the colour of law.

The voices of the American people demanding justice resonate across communities around the world where the authority of the State has been used to repress, not to protect, universal rights and freedoms.

As we have always supported those around the world who work tirelessly and against all odds for justice for black people, people of colour and indigenous people in their own countries, today we proudly join with them in support of the people of the United States.

We commit to continuing to stand with those seeking freedom from fear and to work to transform our societies on the basis of equality and human rights for all.
