Israeli judges send tacit message to ICC: ‘We respect international law’

Among the issues the ICC will consider is whether or not Palestinians can find redress within the local court system. Israel’s High Court of Justice sent a strong but tacit message on Tuesday to the International Criminal Court that the Jewish state is still one that respects international law. Technically speaking, the issue at hand was whether or not some 4,000 illegally built settler homes on private Palestinian property could be retroactively authorized.

Fijian lawyer elected to the International Criminal Court encourages more Pacific people to take up global posts

A Fijian Human rights lawyer has been elected to sit on the counsel of Lawyers for the International Criminal Court in the Hague. 
Ana Tuiketei is the first ever Pacific Islander to counsel on the global roster.
"I think it's important for the Pacific to be part of this global court of the powerless," Ms Tuiketei told Pacific Beat.
"It also helps us join a pathway for more stability, access to justice and security".

Today, a milestone has been reached in the Darfur, Sudan situation with the surrender and transfer of Mr Ali Kushayb, an alleged leader of the "Janjaweed" militia, to the custody of the International Criminal Court ("ICC" or the "Court"). I am grateful for the cooperation of all those states, organisations and individuals who contributed to this pivotal development, in particular, the Governments of the Central African Republic, the Republic of Chad, the French Republic and the Host State, The Netherlands, as well as the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Cambodia's Proposed Criminal Justice Reforms Should Go Further

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch call on the Cambodian government to go further than its stated plan to tackle prison overcrowding and related human rights abuses prevalent in the country’s justice system. On 18 May 2020, recently appointed Minister of Justice Koeut Rith announced a plan to address backlogs in Cambodia’s criminal justice system, including through the promotion of non-custodial alternatives to pre-trial detention and allowing for suspended prison sentences in certain misdemeanor offences.
