Assisted deaths of two Canadian women living in poverty puts spotlight on euthanasia laws

 After pleading unsuccessfully for affordable housing to help ease her chronic health condition, a Canadian woman ended her life in February under the country’s assisted-suicide laws. Another woman, suffering from the same condition and also living on disability payments, has nearly reached final approval to end her life.

German foreign minister vows ‘justice’ for Bucha on Ukraine visit

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has vowed to ensure accountability for crimes committed by Russian troops in Ukraine during a visit to war-torn areas around Kyiv.
“We owe it to the victims to not only commemorate here, but to also hold the perpetrators accountable. This is what we are going to do as the international community, that’s the promise that we can and must give here in Bucha,” Baerbock said during an unannounced trip to Ukraine on Tuesday.

El Salvador: woman sentenced to 30 years in prison for homicide after miscarriage

A court in El Salvador has sentenced a woman who suffered a miscarriage to 30 years in prison for aggravated homicide, in a case which activists said offers a stark warning to women in the United States, where the supreme court is considering overturning a key ruling which legalized abortion.
The woman, identified only as “Esme”, was sentenced on Monday, after nearly two years under pre-trial detention, following her arrest when she sought medical care in a public hospital.

PA calls for ICC probe into Israeli plan to expel Palestinians from Hebron

The Palestinian Authority called on Monday for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate Israel's plan to expel the residents of twelve Palestinian villages in Masafer Yatta, to the south of the occupied West Bank city of Hebron.
"The forcible displacement of citizens by the occupying power, Israel, in Masafer Yatta, and the approval of the demolition of twelve villages there, is a war crime and a crime against humanity," PA Minister of Justice Mohammad Shalaldeh told journalists. "Israel should be held to account for this."

Former Guantánamo prisoner on trial in France for extremism

An Algerian preacher who spent eight years in the US-run Guantánamo Bay prison has gone on trial in France for allegedly encouraging several young men to join the Islamic State group.
Saber Lahmar, a 52-year-old Algerian released by the US in 2008 and taken in afterwards by France, has been charged with encouraging jihadists to head to Iraq and Syria to fight for the extremist group in 2015.

UKRAINE: RUSSIAN FORCES MUST FACE JUSTICE FOR WAR CRIMES IN KYIV OBLAST

Russian forces must face justice for a series of war crimes committed in the region northwest of Kyiv, Amnesty International said today in a new briefing following an extensive on-the-ground investigation.
The briefing, "He´s not coming back": war criems in Northwest Areas of Kyiv Oblast, is based on dozens of interviews and extensive review of material evidence. Amnesty International documented unlawful air strikes on Borodyanka, and extrajudicial executions in other towns and villages including Bucha, Andriivka, Zdvyzhivka and Vorzel.
