Princeton academics accuse EU biofuels policy of harming climate aims
Euractiv, 21 Apr 2022
The EU’s promotion of biofuels as a renewable energy source is undermining the bloc’s climate goals, a new study by Princeton University academics and CIRAD, a French agricultural research body, has found. The report criticises European lawmakers for incentivising the growth of crops for biofuels through bioenergy policies, arguing that the land dedicated to biofuels should be reforested or converted for agricultural purposes to meet climate objectives.

We can be the breeding ground for new technology for pilot projects, for renewables projects,” Lesia Vasylenko, an opposition MP with the pro-EU Holos party, said during a phone call last week from her home in Kyiv, to which she had recently returned after 45 days hopping from safe house to safe house.

Climate’s ‘messy moment’ as countries hunt for oil and gas to replace Russian imports
Politico, 12 Apr 2022
World leaders say the war in Ukraine strengthens the argument for a faster green transition to break dependence on Russian energy — but they aren't acting like it. Renewables, energy efficiency and other efforts linked to battling climate change are struggling to gain traction amid the short-term scramble to ensure there’s enough oil, gas and coal to get through next winter and keep energy prices down.
