Cameroon: Repression Marks Crackdown Anniversary

Cameroon’s authorities should ensure accountability for their security forces’ crackdown on opposition leaders, supporters, and peaceful protesters in September 2020, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch said today. They should immediately and unconditionally release all those held for expressing their political views or for exercising their right to peaceful assembly, and end the campaign of repression against peaceful protesters and critics.

Environmental crimes brought before the court in South Kivu (DRC)

The trial of a militia leader and his accomplice in the Congolese army opened on 13 September 2021. Both men face charges of mass crimes - including environmental crimes. Events occurred in 2019, when the militia took control of part of the Kahuzi Biega National Park (South Kivu) to illegally exploit its natural resources. The militia kept nearby villages under its grip by using extreme violence.

Venezuela judiciary perpetuates rights abuses: UN investigators
