Women in board roles at UK’s biggest listed firms above 40% for first time

The proportion of women in board roles in Britain’s biggest listed companies has risen above 40% for the first time, according to analysis that suggests only 10 of the UK’s 350 largest listed companies still have all-male executive teams. The number of women on boards in the blue-chip FTSE 100 companies and the mid-sized FTSE 250 companies rose by 3% in 2022, according to the government-backed FTSE women leaders review, published on Tuesday.

Ban on trans women in female prisons extended - Raab

Rules banning some transgender women from female prisons in England and Wales come into force on Monday, the justice secretary has said. First announced by Dominic Raab in October, the ban will apply to trans women with male genitalia, as well as those who are sexual offenders. Mr Raab has now said it will be extended to include trans women convicted of violent offences. He said the measures would "improve safety" for prisoners.

Iranian officials to investigate ‘revenge’ poisoning of schoolgirls

“They want to take revenge on schoolgirls who are the pioneers of the recent protests,” the doctor said. “Never before have I treated someone who was poisoned with organophosphate agents. The only cases I treated were workers who were exposed to these agents in agricultural pesticides.” The attacks have led to girls staying away from school. A teacher from Qom – which is about 85 miles south of the capital Tehran – told Radio Farda that out of 250 students, only 50 attended classes. Last week angry parents protested outside the governor’s office in Qom and several schools have been closed due to the pending investigation.
