Bahraini opposition cleric must be immediately freed: MPs
PressTV, 18 Jan 2015

Parliamentarians from 37 countries have called for the “immediate and safe” release of prominent Bahraini opposition cleric Sheikh Ali Salman.
In a letter sent by organizations of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) and No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ), 83 lawmakers said the detention of the 49-year-old cleric, who is the secretary general of al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, “undermines any chance of reconciliation and unity in Bahrain.”
The signatories also urged the Bahraini regime to drop charges against Sheikh Salman and carry out immediate change in the kingdom through reconciliation and dialog with the opposition.
They called on their governments to demand that Manama comply with its obligations under international human rights laws.
The Bahraini regime has charged the secretary general of the monarchy’s largest opposition bloc with “promoting regime change by force, threats, and illegal means, and of insulting the Interior Ministry publicly.”
