Theresa May hosts first LGBT reception since deal with anti-gay DUP

Theresa May has been called "hypocritical" for hosting an LGBT+ reception in Downing Street just a month after she signed a deal with the homophobic Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) to form a government. Veteran campaigner Peter Tatchell denounced the prime minister for holding a reception to “celebrate the community” after signing the agreement with the Northern Irish party which has repeatedly blocked moves to legalise same-sex marriage in the country.

East Timor Offers Hope for LGBT Rights

Marching through the streets of East Timor’s capital Dili with a rainbow flag in his hand, Natalino Guterres was overwhelmed with emotion, reminding him of how he felt 15 years ago when he saw the Timorese flag raised for the first time. “It was an emotional moment,” he said of the pride parade. “The sense of euphoria ... I saw happiness written on people’s faces and some teared up. It reminds me of Independence Day in 2002.”

LGBT People of Color Cannot Escape Workplace Discrimination—No Matter Where They Work

A report released last week reveals bias against LGBT employees of color who are working in the nonprofit sector, even in organizations that specifically serve the LGBT community. The Building Movement Project, which provides research and training tools to help nonprofits better connect with the communities they serve, set out to examine attitudes and practices around sexuality and race in the nonprofit sector.
