Last night, on the occasion of the Gala Dinner supporting the “Stop FGM” Campaign against Female Genital Mutilation, which has been conducted by No Peace Without Justice in collaboration with “ Associazione Italiana Donne per lo Sviluppo” (AIDOS) and eight African and Arabian NGOs, an auction held in a prestigious Roman museum raised €118.900 in funds.  This contribution will ensure the next two years of activities in Africa and Middle East. The initiative has been promoted by Anna and Carla Fendi and an exceptional promotion committee including Susanna and Marella Agnelli, Maria Angiolillo, Gae Aulenti, Virna Lisi, Sophia Loren, Giulia Maria Mozzoni Crespi, Miriam Mafai, Rita Levi Montalcini and Gioia Torlonia. In front of 500 participants from the world of fashion, culture and show business, Anna Fendi, Emma Bonino, Daniela Colombo (AIDOS President), Khady Koita (Euronet-FGM), Walter Veltroni (Mayor of Rome) and Francesco Storace, (President of the Latium Region) took the floor. Other personalities livened up the evening at Christie’s auction through some bidding: Carlo Verdone, on stage with Fabio Capello,  auctioned a  day for a child to spend with Francesco Totti; Serena Dandini auctioned two aquatints (one by Carla Accardi and another by  Sandro Chia); Lucia Dalla, Lucrezia Lante Della Rovere and Fiorella Mannoia appeared on stage to auction respectively a sculpture by Mario Ceroli, a collier by Luigi Scialanga and a sculpture by Giovanni Manganelli..

Statement by Emma Bonino, Member of the European Parliament and Founder of No Peace Without Justice:

“ I want to thank all the people intervened and contributed towards the prosecution of this very important international campaign, also on behalf of  all our African and Arabian friends fighting to abolish this practice. At the beginning of the soiree I made an appeal for everyone’s support and we were not disappointed. We had extraordinary participation, an exceptional warmth, a wonderful soiree. Its success was ensured by Anna and Carla Fendi, Maria Teresa, Maria Ilaria and Maria Silvia Venturini Fendi’s passion and persistence. I believe all of this is the proof that Italian women – independently from their occupation -  are ready to give a helping hand to other women in the world fighting for their own rights and liberties.  Today we will give some truly wonderful news to our partners.”
