{"id":240896,"date":"2021-02-11T12:00:14","date_gmt":"2021-02-11T11:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.npwj.org\/?p=240896"},"modified":"2023-04-07T16:48:56","modified_gmt":"2023-04-07T14:48:56","slug":"npwj-joins-tunisian-ngos-expressing-satisfaction-for-the-release-of-loujain-al-hathloul-and-urging-saudi-authorities-to-lift-restrictions-on-her-right-to-freedom-of-expression-and-movement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.npwj.org\/it\/press-release\/npwj-joins-tunisian-ngos-expressing-satisfaction-for-the-release-of-loujain-al-hathloul-and-urging-saudi-authorities-to-lift-restrictions-on-her-right-to-freedom-of-expression-and-movement\/","title":{"rendered":"NPWJ joins Tunisian NGOs expressing satisfaction for the release of Loujain Al-Hathloul, and urging Saudi authorities to lift restrictions on her right to freedom of expression and movement"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><strong>Tunis, 11 February 2020<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The undersigned Tunisian and international associations express their satisfaction for the release, on 10 February, of prominent Saudi women\u2019s rights defender Loujain Al-Hathloul, following a parole decision by Saudi authorities, ending nearly three years imprisonment, while restricting her right to freedom of expression and preventing her from leaving the country for five years.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We urge the Saudi authorities to release all women activists, arbitrarily imprisoned, as Loujain Al-Hathloul in 2018, for campaigning for the end of male guardianship, and for communicating with international human rights groups and Saudi activists inside and outside the kingdom.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We also call for the liberation of all Saudi prisoners of conscience, and an end to restrictions on Loujain Al-Hathloul\u2019s right to freedom of expression and movement.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Loujain Al Hathloul was subjected during her detention to various forms of torture, including \u201celectrocution, flogging and sexual harassment,\u201d according to reports issued by Arab and international rights groups. The Saudi judiciary, lacking independence, rejected her torture complaint.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The sentence of five years and eight months in prison handed down, on 29 December 2020, by an exceptional court in Riyadh against Loujain Al-Hathloul, was called by 25 Tunisian rights groups as a \u201cshameful stain on the Saudi judiciary.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>The undersigned
