IAC is an International non-governmental organization, created in February 1984, whose mission is the promotion of gender equality and justice by eliminating harmful traditional practices, to enable African women to participate fully in the social, cultural and political development of their continent.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the meeting is to evaluate IAC\u2019s activities and undertake an operational analysis in view of adopting a Plan of Action for the forthcoming years. Delegates will be drawn from IAC\u2019s National Committees and Group Sections and observers invited from the UN system, donor community and diplomats. The General Assembly will serve as a forum for networking, sharing best practices and exchange of ideas on better programming to achieve success.<\/p>\n<p>The commitment of NPWJ against the practice FGM dates to 2002 with the launch of \u201cStop FGM: an International Campaign to Eradicate Female Genital Mutilation\u201d, in partnership with AIDOS (Italian Association for Women in Development) and seven other NGOs from Africa and the Middle East. The\u00a0overall objective of the FGM program is to develop a political, legal and social environment that challenges attitudes and behaviours on FGM and promotes its abandonment, in the context of the promotion and protection of women&#8217;s and girls&#8217; rights, including through promoting the ratification and implementation of the Maputo Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa. The\u00a0program builds the strategic capacity of women\u2019s rights advocates and field practitioners working on FGM and promotes legal reform as an effective tool for behavioural change in order to turn the tide of social norms against FGM.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npwj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/Agenda-7th-GA-Oct-2008-Cairo1.doc\">Program<\/a>\u00a0of the meeting<\/p>\n<p>For
