{"id":254466,"date":"2023-10-11T16:56:43","date_gmt":"2023-10-11T14:56:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.npwj.org\/?p=254466"},"modified":"2024-02-22T16:59:44","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T15:59:44","slug":"universal-periodic-review-of-afghanistan-npwj-submits-contribution-on-the-dismal-state-of-human-rights-and-rule-of-law-in-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.npwj.org\/it\/press-release\/universal-periodic-review-of-afghanistan-npwj-submits-contribution-on-the-dismal-state-of-human-rights-and-rule-of-law-in-the-country\/","title":{"rendered":"Universal Periodic Review of Afghanistan: NPWJ submits contribution on the dismal state of human rights and rule of law in the country"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"intro\">Rome-Brussels, 11 October 2023<\/div>\n<p>In light of the fourth cycle of the\u00a0<strong>United Nations Universal Periodic Review<\/strong>\u00a0(UPR) process of\u00a0<strong>Afghanistan<\/strong>, Non c&#8217;\u00e8 Pace Senza Giustizia (No Peace Without Justice) has submitted a written contribution\u00a0outlining urgent concerns on issues that threaten the Afghan judicial system evolved and issues related to violations of human rights.<\/p>\n<p>The document covers violations of the right to life, enforced disappearances, the right to freedom of expression and media and other human rights as well as the limitations imposed on the rights of women and girls. It also covers violations regarding the collapse of Afghanistan\u2019s judicial and legal system with a special focus on arbitrary arrests and detention, the situation regarding access to justice and the use of the judiciary as a tool of oppression, which leads to a phenomenon also known as rule by law, contrary to rule of law. Specific concerns linked to court rulings and proceedings as well as practices linked to law enforcement demonstrate that this system appears to accept disrespect of human rights and the use of violence as a means of maintaining power.<\/p>\n<p>The recommendations\u00a0will be considered at the\u00a0<strong>46th Session\u00a0<\/strong>of the\u00a0<strong>UPR Working Group<\/strong>\u00a0to
