{"id":259862,"date":"2026-04-23T12:36:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T10:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.npwj.org\/?p=259862"},"modified":"2026-04-27T11:36:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T09:36:37","slug":"npwj-welcomes-launch-of-cicc-report-criminalizing-accountability-the-us-lawfare-against-the-international-justice-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.npwj.org\/it\/press-release\/npwj-welcomes-launch-of-cicc-report-criminalizing-accountability-the-us-lawfare-against-the-international-justice-system\/","title":{"rendered":"NPWJ welcomes launch of CICC report &#8220;Criminalizing Accountability: The US lawfare against the international justice system&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) welcomes the release of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coalitionfortheicc.org\/news\/cicc-launches-criminalising-accountability-report\">Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC) report<\/a> measuring the impact of the US sanctions imposed under executive order 14203 on the Court and those cooperating with it.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on interviews with all individuals and organisations designated under US Executive Order 14203, as well as subject-matter experts, the report finds that sanctions imposed since February 2025 extend beyond US jurisdiction, excluding those designated from basic banking and IT services with service providers around the world extra-territorially applying sanctions. They even extend beyond those designated, generating a wider chilling effect across the international justice system.<\/p>\n<p>In the face of such unprecedented attacks, civil society organisations and grassroot movements around the world have mobilised and advocated against these measures and for the adoption of the EU blocking statute. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npwj.org\/press-release\/nobel-laureates-and-citizens-launch-satyagraha-hunger-strike-will-president-von-der-leyen-choose-eu-principles-or-complicity-with-trump-and-putin\/\">A European-wide mobilisation and a Satyagraha<\/a> (a citizen-led relay fasting) promoted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eumans.eu\/\">Eumans<\/a> and NPWJ are underway and represent a grassroots push to prompt European institutions to take concrete action.<br \/>\nThe EU must move beyond generic political statements of support and demand the activation of the EU Blocking Statute (Regulation 2271\/96) to protect NGOs, the International Criminal Court and those working on justice and accountability from the extraterritorial effect of US unilateral sanctions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read
