Launch of project to enhance women’s economic inclusion in the MENA Region

On 9 June 2015, the project “Promoting Women Empowerment for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development in the MENA Region” was launched during an event held in Cairo, Egypt. The project is promoted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in partnership with No Peace Without Justice.

The purpose of the project is to enhance women’s economic inclusion, and thus to create the conditions for a sustainable and inclusive economic growth and industrial development which are drivers of poverty reduction and social integration. Activities will be aimed at strengthening the capacities of national associations of businesswomen in supporting women entrepreneurs in six target countries of the MENA Region, namely EgyptJordanLebanonMoroccoState of Palestine and Tunisia.

The launch of the project provided an opportunity to present the project to a larger audience and promote the cooperation between national women’s associations, public institutions and policy makers of the six target countries as well as relevant international and regional organizations. The project presentation was followed by a round-table discussion focused on Access to finance for women enterprise creation and development, being this one of the major challenges women encounter in creating or growing a business in the MENA region.
