Tunisia: KADEM and NPWJ release publication “The Preparatory Process to Transitional Justice in Tunisia”

No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) and Al-Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center (KADEM), under the framework of the Transitional Justice Academy, have released a publication entitled “The Preparatory Process to Transitional Justice in Tunisia”. The purpose of this publication is to increase awareness and strengthen capacity about transitional justice in Tunisia as part of NPWJ and KADEM’s engagement to support the country democratic transition.

Since the first weeks following the ousting of former President Ben Ali in January 2011, KADEM and NPWJ have been working in Tunisia to disseminate a culture of transitional justice and to build the capacity of the various actors working in this field. This publication aims at enhancing the level of substantive understanding of transitional justice mechanisms and approaches of civil society involved in transitional justice-related activities.

This publication includes contributions from Amal wahchi, Judge in the Public Inspection in the Justice Department and General reporter of the National Fact-Finding Commission Investigating Abuses; Ichrak Bezine, Judge and researcher in the Center of Legal and Judicial Studies; Omar Bou Bakri, Professor at the Faculty of Law of Sfax; Omar Weslati, Judge in the Appeals Chamber in Tunis; Fekher Gafsi, Defense Lawyer, member of the Regional Department of Lawyers in Tunis and the Secretary General and a founding member of the Tunisian League for Citizenship; Mohammed Ayaïdi, President of a Trial Chamber at the Administrative Tribunal and a Member of the National Fact-Finding Commission aInvestigating Embezzlement and Corruption; Monia Ammar, Judge, advisor at the Court of Cassation and Former President of the Committee of Experts on Human Rights at the League of Arab States.
