NPWJ participates in JRR training and coordinating group meeting on 29 to 30 September 2008 in Berlin

29 September 2008

No Peace Without Justice participates in Justice Rapid Response Training and Coordinating Group meeting on 29 to 30 September 2008 in Berlin. The purpose of the JRR Training meeting, which is organised by ZIF (Zentrum für Internationale Friedenseinsätze / Center for International Peace Operations), a JRR Coordinating Group member, is to discuss and adopt a training syllabus for the experts who will be included in the JRR Roster. The meeting will also be an opportunity to keep the momentum with Coordinating Group members, particularly States, and begin preparations for the next JRR meeting, most likely to be scheduled for November in The Hague.

JRR is an international cooperative mechanism for the supply of voluntary assistance at the request of a State or international institution, where the identification, collection and preservation of information would assist at any stage a wide range of international and transitional justice options. The JRR fills some of the serious gaps in the international community’s ability to assist in the provision of accountability processes for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity and to ensure that international justice plays an integral role in post-conflict peace building.

In order to facilitate cooperation of partners in the JRR mechanism, No Peace Without Justice is acting as the Interim JRR Secretariat until modalities for coordination are further developed among the JRR participants or an international organization may be in a position to take over the coordination and implementation of the JRR mechanism.
