NPWJ, HURINET-U and UCICC showcase pre-Review Conference visits at the ICC ASP

UNHQ-New York, 23 March 2010

In a briefing hosted by the Governments of Denmark and Uganda during the resumed Eighth Session of the ICC Assembly of States Parties at the United Nations, NPWJ, HURINET-U and the UCICC have presented the results from their first two visits of ICC State Party delegates to Uganda.  Representatives of Chile, Denmark, the DRC, Finland, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda shared their persepctives on the positive impact the visits in Uganda had on them and some of the key messages they heard regarding the justice needs, expectations and aspirations of victims and affected communities.
The State representatives all spoke positively about the experience, which they described as helping them gain a better understanding of what international criminal justice can, does and could mean to people in conflict and post-conflict countries, and encouraged all States Parties to participate in the visits.

The next visits are being organised from 29 March to 2 April 2010, from 4 to 9 May 2010 and just before the Review Conference, on 26-29 May 2010.  Further information about the Delegates' Visits is available from this dedicated web page.
